The rear shelf speakers on my CV8 are badly in need of some cosmetic TLC as the black paint seems to have worn off in patches. How is easy is it to remove the covers so that they can be touched up or re-sprayed? Cheers in advance.

mine are the same, thought at first it was the original owner spilt something on them but under inspection it does appear the paint is falling off them. Now for the bad news - as far as I can tell the only way to get them out is to strip out the rear seats to remove the entire rear panel which is why I havent gotten around to fixing mine yet and they've been like that for over 3 years now!!

Cheers mate, even if it does mean they'll be staying in their current state for a while longer. That or a black perm-marker pen!

yes to remove the parcel shelf and speaker grills as they are fixed from underneith you need to remove the rear seats and posibly the side panels too the easiest was is to touch then up with a little enamel paint i used some hunbrol matt back altho the original colour is slightly gray in comparison

I believe this is a common problem with the rear shelf.

If under warranty have it looked at. Vauxhall know of the problems with the paint coming off the speakers.

just to resurrect this and give you some idea of whats involved I fixed this problem this weekend just passed. Here's a pic of before

heres a pic of after

heres a pic showing roughly what you have to turn your car into

I used a can of satin black spray paint to redo the covers, local store had no matt black left. To remove the rear speaker covers you have to

1. remove rear seats
2. remove rear side panels (both sides)
3. remove both sill trim panels
4. remove seatbelt trim panel
5. remove rear pillar trim (both sides)

I've got loads more pics of the entire process, showing aerial amp, rear window fixings, speakers etc etc etc so if anyone wants more pics because they want to change speakers etc I'll be happy to post them up on photobucket for you to access. I used the following as the starting point for the disassembly process

Hi Simon,

The brown gunk is not rust it is actually the rust proofing or sealant they uses. Very waxy and a pain to remove to soundproof !!

Cheers
