Apparently, a poll done a few days ago suggests that Obama:

a) inspires confidence
b) can get things done
c) tough enough to be president

He hasn't actually done anything yet, let alone hold an office, and some how people feel "can get things done" and has displayed enough talent to be "tough enough to be president".

Pah, getting elected is nothing. Look at the halfwits we've been voting for in the UK in the last few years. We've happily let proper politicians get destroyed to keep spin doctors in power. Go out and ask anyone in the street if they know what 'Clause 4 means'. They won't. Blair knew that Old Labour was dead, and had the oratory ability to convince enough of the electorate that under him, things could only get better. And the suckers believed it.

I suggest that Obama was elected because Bush was unpopular and not as good at public speaking as his silver-tongued rival. I also have no doubt that many blacks and coloureds also voted for him on racial grounds.

Well, he seems nice enough, and now he's in. Time will tell if he can cut the mustard. I hope he can.
