Trip to the States..... Best way?

A group of friends and I are planning a trip to the states in May. We plan to travel to a few places both east coast and west coast. We were planning to purchase London to New York (return) from here and get our other flights seperatley.
The places we plan to go inlcuding New York are:
Miami
Las Vegas
Los Angeles
My questions are:
1) Is it better (cheaper) to purchase the internal flights from the UK or the US?
2) Is gettin all flights including our internal flights in one go a viable option? What good websites are there for this?
3) Would flying from London to Miami but return to London from New York be an economical option?

If you weren't buying the internals at the same time you would be buying an 'open-jawed' ticket which is expensive.

Go from UK-New York and return LAX to London or something like that, and buy internal flights/drive between the two places.
Vegas is probably the best place on earth; I had an amazing time there. Stay in the nicest hotel you can afford - Bellagio and MGM are highly recommended.
Wouldn't bother with LA again - apart from the one famous street (the name currently escapes me) it's just a dirty, smoggy city.
Best thing about the US is the constant rumble of V8's!

Las Vegas is probably the most boring place on earth. There is a certain initial fascination in seeing the effect of zero taste combined with infinite budget but once you've walked up and down the main street that's it. I had a day and a half there, looked round the town centre in the evening, next morning found it was even less interesting in daylight, so decided to spend the day by the hotel pool, something I never normally do because it's so boring. Unfortunately th pool was only about 2 feet deep so no chance of swimming, I managed to find a spare space among the other bored people and read a book for 10 minutes until it started raining.Wouldn't bother with LA again - apart from the one famous street (the name currently escapes me) it's just a dirty, smoggy city.

I've never been to Vegas, that succinct (and excellent) review has ensured I never will. It sounds awful.

There are a lot of small carriers in the US that do internal flights only, they would be worth investigating.
Also, you may find it cheaper to arrive in the US at a non major city, it could be cheaper, and your transition into the country will be quicker and easier.
But traveling east to west once, and returning from LAX or Vegas will be cheaper on the whole

Vegas is great fun if you are there with friends who want to enjoy gambling, drinking and general boys activities but rubbish if you are on your own.

That is a VERY good deal. AA quite often are one stop flights tho so worth checking.Good airline.I can get the following flights....

Your best bet is to talk to airline reservations directly and see what they can do as its not an uncommon request and they can work through a whole schedule on the phone for you. We use US Airways which is okish.For what its worth, I did get a quote yesterday for a return to Philly from LGW and got $478 return inc taxes for the end of May returning 7th June which I thought was rather good.
