Hi,

Ive heard that the Emissions part of the MOT test has changed for older cars (its now less strict),

Can anyone confirm this as true? Ive been offered a full rally / race engine for my 1300 1986 mini and was wondering if a should bother buying it or not.

The seller (a very nice chap) has kindly mentioned that the fuelling on the IDA weber has been set up for high revs, and so consequently may possibly fail an MOT.

Can anyone clarify if the law has changed or not? Or if it hasnt, what the current rules are?

Cheers,

the easyest way is to look at the age of the car its going into (i know you can argue the age of the engine, but most mot testers wont be interested in this - they are busy boys!)

if its a mid 1980's car its going to have to conform to the emissions test, unlike a pre 72 (i think) where its more of a 'visable smoke' thing. as such i would say getting a full race/rally engine running an ida through the test is going to be impossible.

also, if its a 'full race' motor it will be undriveable on the road - id guess that the required 1000 mile rebuild intervals would be a pain on the pocket as well.

probably best to get something more mild for road use.
