Newbie Questions - Impreza WRX STi Type R [Version 5]
Discussion
Evening Chaps,
I’m just in the process of purchasing a recently imported Subaru Impreza WRX STi Type R [Version 5] as my first Japanese performance car. I’m not that familiar with this exact model and have a few queries that hopefully can be answered on here?
• Is a workshop manual available for this model?
• What are the servicing requirements?
• I believe the car should be remapped for UK fuel. Can anyone recommend a tuner in the South West area to do this work? What exactly is involved?
• What is the best way to check the DCCD is fully operational?
• When ordering parts what is the closest equivalent cars? P1? Where is the best place for parts?
Any other pearls of wisdom on the ownership of this particular model?
Thanks
John

You'd probably be best going over to the Subaru Impreza Drivers Club forum. Lots of info there. Think the address is www.SIDC.co.uk
The P1 was based on the Type-R (minus DCCD and plus ABS among other changes)so should be similar for most parts.
To check DCCD function...
1)find a big slippery area
2)set DCCD to open (wind right back)
3)do donuts easily
4)wind DCCD dial partially forward
5)experience more traction and more understeer than before as the diff tightens up
6)set DCCD to lock (dial all the way forward)
7)experience funny noises as you try to turn tightly with locked centre diff
Probably worth reading this first:

I was about to point you in the direction of www.type-ra.co.uk but I see you've posted on there already
Be aware that DCCD cars are much less forgiving (but more rewarding) than regular 50:50 Subarus, if you take the pi$$ expecting it to idiot-proof it will probably bite your fairly hard. Looking at your car history you've had plenty of RWDs so hopefully I don't need to tell you this, just thought it worth mentioning as many first-time DCCD drivers have embarrassing moments with it.
