I booked five Delta airline tickets from Orbitz on-line last night, to the USA, for three adults, a senior citizen and a child, all travelling together.

I checked the itinerary today and somehow Orbitz has decided that the senior is a child, and vice versa.

I just called Orbitz and the girl there didn't know what to do, or whether it mattered, but suggested we cancel all the tickets????

yikes A little drastic I thought.

Anybody know if this is going to be a major issue, should I contact Delta direct, or just forget about it?

The ballache is I need to call from my ship, with a phone line that can quit occasionally mid conversation. frown

Problem is normally once the ticket is issued i.e.e as soon as you purchase them they cannot be altered so cancellation is normally the only way,

Get on the phone ASAP. I booked a ticket while half asleep about a year ago on BA via Orbitz. Was utterly gutted as I couldn't aford a cockup like that (or a month off work rather then a week banghead ).

BA were utterly useless, they said the booking belonged to Orbitz and they couldn't do anything at all. On the off chance I called Orbitz, sat through half an hour of crap holding music and spoke to an old dear in Dallas or Kansas or somewhere in the US. And after some explaining and her commenting on my lovely British Accent a few times she said they had to give me a refund. Then at least, I think you had 24 hours. It may have changed from then though but worth a try.

For what its worth, not having dealt with the airline but having dealt with other similar situations i THINK if you turned up to check in with the right names on the ticket for the right flight you will probably be ok. If i were a betting man i'd wing-it personally and just turn up for check in. As long as the names are right i would say your ok.

To put your mind at rest if you can Phone Delta direct (there should be a UK number on the web somewhere) and explain to them the situation they should be able to either tell you not to worry, put a note on the booking to explain the mixup that the check-in person will see when you check in or even change the booking for you.

This may be bad internet forum advice and if someone knows better please shoot me down. I'm not a travel agent but i used to be a Tour Operator and have booked thousands of tickets for people with various airlines and then gone through every permutation of cancelling/changing/altering you could think of - except i have to say your particular example! - and gut feeling it as above, it should be ok

Your travel agents advice is very poor. I'd go back to them and ask them to do better.

hope this helps

Thanks guys. I called Delta direct, from my ship, on the crappy delayed action phone line. The girl told me I needed to talk to Orbitz, so I informed her that Orbitz had told me I needed to contact Delta direct.....

Delta girl then punched a bunch of keys, (I could hear them) told me it 'should be okay' and asked me if I wanted to book a hotel or car.

I contacted my wife, told her the story, and she was not happy, so she again spent 40 minutes on the phone to Orbitz, who got in touch with Delta, and between them they guarantee we won't have any problems come check in time.

I'm a worrier about those sort of tiny details, as all it needs is some jobsworth at check-in who doesn't give a damn, or a computer program that simply won't let it happen, and we could be in a real mess. I usually check in on-line the night before I fly anywhere, print boarding pass etc, so that should give us an inkling in advance. But then you still have to go to the check in at the airport when flying to the USA, and get some more boarding passes printed out.

But it sounds like it should be okay... thumbup
