Kit Car Newbie here.

I'm looking at getting a kit car in the next year and am looking at these two:

The Daytona Coupe Kit:
http://www.factoryfive.com/table/ffrkits/coupe/cou...
probably with a big V8.

And this:
Luego Viento:

Caterfield alike with a V8.

Both are available in Canada which is where I currently live, and seem to have decent support over here too. So, questions:

1. Without any build experience, would either of these pose a big problem for me, I can usually pick things up fairly well?

2. Are there any other kits available here that anyone would recommend, specifically GT40ish or caterham 7ish?

3. Has anyone had experience of either of these two kits?

4. Would I be able to build either of these in a single sized garage (don't know the exact dimensions, lets say 9ft wide)

thanks in advance

No car in the UK is 9ft wide! Our roads are generally under 8ft wide!

Pose the same question on www.locostbuilders.co.uk there are plenty of people on there who have built Vientos.

I knew that! Just stating that if you have a 9ft wide garage you will have no problem fitting a UK kitcar in it. Fool!

Cheers, so does no one have any experience/views on the Daytona Coupe Kit?

That Daytona Coupe kit looks impressive, i'd say far more complicated for a newbie to build than a 7 style replica.

Good luck whatever you decide on.

Hi,

My GF works for Factory Five UK. They have a UK registered Coupe. It's a very impressive kit and very nice to drive.

So what info would you like?

cheers, Jord

I suppose whether it is suitable for a beginner?

Is there any modification needed to the bodyshell i.e. holes cutting, extra fibreglassing etc. for all the fine detail?

Any other major work need doing, i.e. welding?

How wide is the car, need to check the dimensions to see if I could work on it in my garage.

Anything else I might need to know? I had loads of questions, they've all just disappeared from my head!

You are going to find a seven style car much easier to work on in a single garage - you can stand and work easily between the wheels along the sides which you can't do on a full bodied car. Seven style also lack a lot of the complicated (frustrating) aspects of a build that the coupe has.

I'd say you have a much higher chance of successful completion of a seven for your first car...

... but I'd rather struggle and end up with the coupe than a seven hehe
