Interested if anyone runs one of these and what real world mpg they achieve on the motorway and combined cycle?

Web info says:
Fuel Consumption (Urban) 31 mpg
Fuel Consumption (ExtraUrban) 53.3 mpg
Fuel Consumption (Combined) 42.2 mpg

Is this realistic?

Thanks,

Mart

Never re-set mine and in the 3k that I've had it, I have managed 36mpg which is from mainly around town stuff and the odd longer motorway journey. It has a remap and do enjoy driving it.

Based on my own experience with a diesel (albeit E46 330cd manual not E92 335d auto) I would say you'll only get near the combined figure if you do a fair amount of longer runs (say 50 miles plus) on motorways and the like.

Overall I averaged about 38 with the 330cd and from memory that was also against a combined figure of around 42. Therefore, I was basically 10% down on the combined figure on a driving mix that included very little round town work but equally not much in the way of really long runs either. However, I was actually a bit disappointed with that as in the same type of running with a petrol I usually beat the combined figure by at least 10%; can only assume diesels take longer to warm up and hence you need to be doing the longer journeys to get the benefit on fuel consumption.

My conclusion? 335d is a good car but buy a 335i unless you're sure you're going to be doing plenty of long runs!! wink

I go no less than 35 MPG from my remapped 335D touring, 40 mpg on a steady run.

What real world mpg does a 330i petrol and a 335i do on a run?

Are those numbers straight off the trip computer? If so they're likely to be overstated if my experience with BMW computers is anything to go by (still very good for the performance though!).

Actually my trip computer has been very accurate but i always use an online mpg calculator to confirm it when i do a check.

27 mpg for the E46 330 petrol and 36mpg for the 335d is what I achieve on a mainly urban cycle. Add about 5 mpg to those figures for cruising on a motorway at 0.85 leptons.

Would be interesting to hear from owners on that one! However, on a run I'd be very surprised if you couldn't beat the respective combined figures by at least 10% (so mid 30's for a 335i and low 40's for a 330i for the latest efficient dynamics models). Mind, will probably have a load of posts from owners saying they get no more than high 20's now I've said that....!

On a run, though, I'd expect the equivalent diesels to get pretty close to their respective combined figures so if fuel cost and range are important considerations they do make a lot of sense.

In the 335i I averaged 26mpg.

I could easily see 34mpg on a run but struggled to get over 35mpg, was more like 30 unless sat at 75mph all the time.

I had one of the new 330i (272bhp) for 2 days and that was amazing, returned nearly 38 mpg in just under 500 miles.
Was seriously rapid too. I think that has got to be the car of choice right now, you need to remap the 335d to make it quicker.

This is interesting stuff. I really believe Diesels dont like urban conditions.I have a 120d auto 177bhp with a t.box. From the beginning of the M4 to junction 15 then up the A419 on to gloucester giving it 0.85-90 leptons i'll achieve 45-46mpg.

However the other day 9 miles around outer london mid morning the OBC showed 21mpg

eek Have'nt been able to replicate that thank god but 31-32 is the norm around town.

I used to get 28mpg regularly in my 120d auto round town, and when it was really cold it would drop to 23/24!

Oh, and I picked up a Navigon 2100 the other day Carlovers, really nice. But I have also put iGo8 on there which is really impressive too.
Have a nice user interface so I can choose what system to run from startup, Navigon, iGo and also have Garmin and TomTom, but once again their useless!

A bit off topic now (sorry) but for contrast the worst tankful I've ever had in my 130i was roughly 24mpg (all town work with average speed well under 20mph).

Average of 37mpg for my 335d touring across all types of driving. I got 41mpg on a recent trip from Windsor to Liverpool, cruising at sensible speeds.

Did you not know!!

A remapped 335d can gain that much momentum, that by the time you have stopped, you can easily achieve 100 mpg

I meant, send me a PM on the alpinaregister and I will send you some links, you just put a new SD card in and load it all from there, you can go back to normal navigon by swapping cards.

We get around 34mpg commuting and 40mpg when we take our 335d on a run. Also run a 120d manual which averages 48mpg over all journeys. I've found diesels to be so much better around town for fuel efficiency. When a diesel is ticking over it really sips fuel compared to a petrol motor. In London traffic I've had small petrol motors struggling to get 15 or so to the gallon with diesels still achieving mid twenties under the same conditions.

I got somewhere between 32 and 34 mpg overall, could cruise at 50+ mpg if you drove like a Grandma, but if that's the plan then get a 318d smile
