The center is just like just about any other large town in the UK. If you had asked about Telford or Preston you would probably get teh same response

TBH its gettin better, but i still wouldnt move here without gettin advice from someone who lives here. I've lived here for 5 yrs, and if i had to start all over again, i would pick one of the less ste areas to live in, because where i live is like the helmand province!

A bit scummy in parts, but there has been a lot of money pumped into the area in the past 10 years, resulting in some fantastic improvements in infrastructure. The Frenchgate shopping centre is very good for a town centre place, and there's a big car park next door. The market, particularly the fish market, is excellent. The new Lakeside development is very nice in a townhouse/mews sort of way, and as mentioned Bessacarr/Cantley area has some lovely old houyses and places to live. There are a lot of very nice villages in the area - Sprotborough village, Bawtry, the area where the Pilgrim fathers originated - viallages like Scrooby, Misson etc. Also the villages out to the east, like Fishlake, all situated in what is known as "Thorne wastes" are very nice country places. Hooton Pagnell is a lovely place out towards Barnsley, and until recently the entire village was owned by the local gentry and so the village population was almost the same size as listed in the Domesday book. The church clock plays tunes every hour.
One other interesting feature is the White Swan in the centre - best known for having the tallest public bar in England - the counter is 5' 6" high IIRC! And it has a racecourse, and the footie team is going well, as is the rubgy team.

I thought the Swan had closed? Been living here since I was 18 months (22 now). I actually quite like it, I live in Bessacarr, it's not too bad, dont see many problems, just the occassional theft of milk.
I really quite like the night life here, its not all that bad. There is a fair old whack to do as well around here, the dome is a big leisure complex with swimming, ice skating, climbing wall, squash courts and multipurpose courts for five aside etc. Theres also in the same area as the complex, a good pub (the cheswold), a vue cinema and a bowling alley.
It's got great transport links, its on the east coast mainline, directly off the M18 and with the new airport in full swing good for holidays.
The people...well there seems to be a fair old whack of working class folks about, which is understandable due to the fact doncaster was primarily a coal and rail town, but its starting to get better in terms of more classes coming in to the town and greater multiculturalism. The girls unfortunately are all ugly.
What else is there, well the football team is starting to do a little better now they have a few results on the boards. Shopping wise there is the Lakesdie Outlet which is good for relatively cheap stuff, the town centre is good, but of course meadowhall is only a 25 minute drive away, or 20 minutes on the train.
Anything else you want to know, just ask.
