Does anyone have experience of the MX5 based Westfield kit?

I have a 260bhp MX5 turbo and i've always wanted a Westfield and i'm think the time may have come to turn my MX5 into one.

I wondered what people opinions of the kit are?

The review of the early model i read about was rated it as poor, but i dare say a lot of development by both company and customers has happened since. Basically, the kit i read about wasn't as good a drive as a standard MX5.

Depends how good your MX-5 is. If it's not a MOT failure requiring welding and wotnot, personally I'd leave it be. I would not dismantle a perfectly functional MX-5 to build a nail from it. Also, 260bhp and a turbo is going to be a proper handful in a Westfield...

From a standard MOT failed MX-5, I expect it'd be a proper, good value and fun proposition. However great though the engine and drivetrain is of the MX-5, it isn't the lightest thing in the world, and weight is everything when it comes to nails.

Hum, not so positive then. My Eunos is in perfect but tatty condition i.e. its a stripped out, heavily modified track car with associated scratches & dents but mechanically A1, no advisaries on MOT etc.

I was hoping someone would say "they drive like an MX5 thats lost 400kg", which would be quite fun.

I don't know how the Mazda SDV compares to an SEiW, I guess the only way to find out is to have a trip to the factory and have a go.

Personally I went from a MX-5 to a Westfield and the difference is massive (I sold the MX-5 within a week of driving a Caterfield for the first time). But my original Westfield was a horrible road car, so I ended up (eventually) with another MX-5 for the road. Then I found a Westfield that was good on the road and am now selling the MX-5 as when I want to play I'll always grab the Westie.

Basically they're both awesome for different reasons, so you really can't go wrong either way. But if I had to choose one, I'd go for the Westie (as long as it's not a total hard-core track one). But then again, if I had a stripped out track MX-5, I'd probably want to keep that.

That's probably not very helpful...

They say its got to be 1.6 MX5 based, I've emailed asking them if the 1.8 can be used. I can't see why not as everything on all versions of mx5 are interchangable.
