I've always thought the British public in general is a bit thick but the news has just said that the governments launching a campaign to raise awareness that being fat is bad for you. They say currently only 6% of people are aware its unhealthy being fat, people are not really that stupid,... are they?

11% of parents apparently can't tell if their children are obese and 30% are.

There was a survey a while back, not sure if they held it outside Iceland and Farmfoods, but apparently 10% of parents thought that items such as the following contributed to their childrens five-a-day:

Spaghetti Hoops
Coca Cola
Jaffa Cakes
Orange Squash

The best part is that 5% didn't think that Oranges and Banana's did contribute.

I know loads of people in the UK who when suggested that something is very unhealthy, their response is "Well, I like the taste of it". It's quite unbelievable when there's so much education and new information in black & white regarding obvious unhealthy foods. These people are alo quite well educated but think eating rubbish won't affect them. Well it will but by that point it's normally too late.

You can eat healthily very easily but most can't be arsed to spend a little time finding out.

Pointless and meaningless news.

The government wants to launch an initiative.

It thinks it can garner public support and brownie points if the initiative is seen as being "for the nation's good".

It needs to justify this initiative as it will no doubt cost millions to implement.

They therefore conduct a survey whih "proves" theat the British public need educating on this subject.

If the survey had shown that 90% of British people were well aware that being fat wasn't that good for our health, they would have been lambasted for running the initiative and wasting public money.

An amazingly vast majority of people appear to be stupid. Look at the idiots that dial 999 when their toaster is broken plus most of the drivers on our roads are daft morons.

Motoring forum posters and readers are exempt from that last remark of course.

There's a good chance you'll die anyway. In fact, it's almost a certainty.

Everyone I've known who's died has been struck by unpredictable illness and accident.

This is just governments and doctors protecting their franchise. Ignore them.

yes but there are tens of thousands with diseases such as Type 2 Diabetes, Coronary Heart Disease etc with clear indications that it is caused by bad diet. These people live a substandard of life compared to what they could have had - they are still alive but what a life.

Agree completely, a bit like the long term reasearch on the effects of red wine consumption , the results will never be published because they weren't what was expected.

which arse have they plucked this little figure from, or more importantly which dregs of society have they had to poll to get to this figure?

it's all in the question - and i REFUSE to believe that the majority of people would answer no to the question "do you believe that being fat is unhealthy"

this figure is either made from a question deliberatly designed to give that impression - or is quite frankly made up.

there is a lot of shock in stats like this

It worked. You already believe the government figures, just because they said so.

Do you also believe Co2 is causing global warming climate change?

Even with my complete and utter distain for the british public i refuse to believe they are that thick. Even the folk i work with who are pretty moronic at times aren't that stupid

And these are people who asked what the orange bits are in carrot cake and think that killer whales are sharks because they have big teeth
