Clutch on wife's 2007 TD4 has started to slip. Car has done 31k miles - a lot of minor country road miles so frequent gear changes, but little towing or other use that could result in excessive clutch wear. I know clutches are consumables, but 30k seems a bit of a short lifespan in a modern car that is not exactly a high performance machine. Doesn't appear to be any oil leak that might be contaminating it, I am assuming it is just a worn plate or weak diaphram. Any thoughts before I take it to dealer (hoping it might be warranty rather than wear and tear)?

Driving technique wink

Are there a few hillstarts round your way? sitting at junctions slipping the clutch & not using the handbrake? That's a prime contender for wearing clutch plates out in a hurry.

Nope, wife definitely knows how to drive and is not cruel to clutches (and I don't drive it much!). Only time clutch got a bit smoked was a year ago when I had to do a hill start while towing a small tractor. Could certainly smell it on that occasion, but as mentioned, towing is rare and we only pulled something heavy on that single occasion.
