Couldn't help but notice the bombshell of offers on BMW's site earlier, especially on 5/6/X cars. Is bmw feeling the pinch or ahead of the game and a sign of things to come in 2009?

Sign of things to come. Its called Fast start 2009...they want to keep the market share of the prestige brands.
Traditionally Audi start the year off out in front - there is a lot of stock at BMW so these deals
will help remove it all before the March spec changes kick in. Theres some new models coming so they
need these older cars gone.
Crazy deals on X6 at the moment - I know that there are deals of around £8K or more off - close to
20% off list. Theres no plans to change it though - just a lot of unsold stock I guess.

Wow 8k off a new x6?! I assume that's not including the dynamic/media pack offer?

We had a chat with a salesman at our local dealer and he was saying that BMW have cut production on the x5, surely it would be the same with the x6?

Also, what new spec is arriving on the march cars? The guy said that idrive2 was available on the x5 from around week 4x of '08 - november cars?, can't remember when exactly, but i haven't seen any used with the system.

I've noticed merc and audi always seem to have much more competitive offers on their sites than bmw, which was why this seemed like a shocker, never seen BMW resort to offers like this.

I spoke to a mate (who sells new BMW's for a living) a while back, c November I think, and he reckoned the X6's were selling amazingly well, to the point he couldnt get enough of them!

I can only assume thats changed if some dealers are offering £8k off.

Mind, I question his info having read the above - he had said they only ever discount 8%....but that was months ago hehe

I work in the automotive sector and we monitor car production round the world on a monthly basis. I can tell yo that just about every car company has cut production of just about every model. The German manufacturers are typically extending the factory shut downs over Christmas.

It may be that they cant get enough X6's due to the fact that they arent making a lot and each dealer isnt allocated many.

Interesting stuff, this must mean that there should be a readjustment of AUC prices of 6mth-1yr old X5s as at the moment those that aren't looking for loaded specs are better off buying a new car instead. But I bet dealers aren't going to change their prices, meaning it's down to buyers to bring the price down?

Anyone know what the chances are now of getting a discount given the offers compared to before the offers? Are the dealers taking the hit by offering the free upgrades meaning they won't budge on the price or is BMW itself giving these incentives meaning there may be some scope with dealers?

I would have thought it was BMW giving the incentive, therefore some discounts would still be available.

07 x5 3.0d's are now down as low as £27995 on AUC, and 08's as low as £32995 - this one has dynamic pack, media pack, third row seating, etc

Hang on... pgilc1 i can't see that car at all when i do a national search, curiously, if i set it to sort by distance, i can't see any cars further than 58 miles from my postcode.

Have I inadvertently solved the 'missing bmws from the site'? I've tried other postcodes, and i'm seeing cars i didn't see before!
