Can you paint over wallpaper ??

If so, does it look st afterwards ??

Do you have to cover it in something first to stop the paint soaking in and then have the whole lot peel off the wall ??

Trying to think of something to do tomorrow so I won't go back to work thinking that all my time off has been wasted.

Done it, looks ok. However clearly not a great option if:

The wallpaper is a really bold pattern and you're using light coloured emulsion - bloody pain in the arse!

The wallpaper is 'flocked' or has a similar raised pattern.

The wallpaper was ineptly applied in the first place.

You shouldn't.
But I did in two rooms, one room ok, one room isn't.

As per previous messages. Done it a few times and has worked, other times (on older wallpaper generally) and the moisture in the paint caused the paper to bubble up, and in one case peel off.

Beware! If you paint over the paper then decide that you don't like it, 'twill be a bu**er stripping it off.

If it's woodchip wallpaper, you have 2 options

1. Paint over existing 15 layers of paint, or

2. Accept that a world of st is coming your way and remove it all, along with old plaster, hidden defects and other surprises. The pain will be worth it to be rid of that god awful wallcovering.

Its not the woodchip stuff fortunately (already painted over that in another room and got away with it!).

Nice flat wallpaper not peeling anywhere just a little dated in its colour, no raised or bold patterns.

..........might give this a go as I have some paint and will therefore be like a free upgrade !!

Give it a go it might look like st might not depends how fussy you are i suppose.

Other option is to strip it and get 1 of us plasterers in to skim it .
