oil temps in this cold weather

Hi guys

In this cold weather my oil temp says -1 for around 5 minuets and then starts going up. Could this just be a very cold sensor or is there a chance the sensor is broken?

I got that on my water temp even though it was well above freezing. Reckon it's a broken sensor you have.

Mine had a new sensor fitted, it reads -8 ish most of the time at a cold start up. Rarly gets above 45 degrees, i recon it reads around 16 degrees under all of the time, not really a problem but i would like it sorted. Sort of getting another sensor i dont know what to do, i started a thread asking if it was possible to reset the settings but got no reply so im guessing not.

any ideas where the oil sensor is located?

dont think you have a problem, remember the engine is a big hunk of metal it is not going to heat up instantly, so dont expect to see the oil temp rise for 5 mins.
The sensor is just below the air filter box on the end of a small flexi tube it about 30mm on diameter with a spade terminal on it

That would be the oil pressure sensor the oil temperature sensor is located at the bottom of the oil tank:-



This is in the air flow hence why you see the oil temperature drop when on the move.This can be covered with some pipe lagging to prevent this.

Although statically when cold the ambient and oil temperature sensor should read the same.

If I'm on the move on a very cold day the oil struggles temp reading struggles to get over 50 degrees, on the Mway it'll be as low as 40-45.

Stopping for a coupe of mins quickly sees it shoot back to a nice 65-75 operating temperature.

I'm assuming these cars have an oil cooler? do they have an oil stat too? A lot of guys in the Jap car world simply put a cover over the front of the oil coolers in such cold weather. Helps keep temps up
