Clutch Master Cyl
Discussion
Evening gents, had the seal go on my clutch master cylinder on my :85 350i. Having consulted the "wedge bible", it seems that the cylinder is a TVR part rather than a more common parts bin special. Anybody let me know the best place to get one and what price I should be expecting to pay?
Really enjoy the forum, tend to lurk more than contribute, hope my request does not breach forum protocol!
Number cast into the cylinder body is: 7 AZ 5430

Clutch master should not be an issue (brake master is) and on mine it is a rover sd1 part (seems not to be like that on all wedges) and based on part number (see rimmer website for this) and you can order at your local shop. If you are careful you can overhaul (I did without problems, and is now over a couple years ago) as the pushrod under an angle can cause same problems very quickly again.

Have a look here. Tell them that is for a TVR, they seem to know whats what.
I did both master and slave cylinder seals. Easy job apart from the seized pin in the pedal, that resulted in me drilling a small in the bulkhead to knock it out!
Been leak free ever since.

Most common wedge m/cyl is Girling unit with casting number 64676310. Bore is 0.70". Allegedly also used on TR6 and Lotus Cortina. Anywhere from £25 to £75 depending on size of seller's villa in Spain.Really enjoy the forum, tend to lurk more than contribute, hope my request does not breach forum protocol!

A bit late, sorry
), but beware!
Not all clutch m/cyl are standard girling. My '88 390 looks like the standard girling, but as I found out to my peril,TVR/A.N.Other modified it to use 1/4" pipe instead of the usual 3/16, & hence had different (larger)unions. I think the bore is standard .70" . I think TVR did this to quicken clutch action.?
Also the thread on the actuating rod was different to the 'standard' off the shelf items...
Ended up finding out that griff/Chim M/Cyl are the same, and also have the same clamping marks in the body as my old one did.

I can't speak specifically to the V8 models, but I have definitely found on the V6 wedges that fitment could vary, presumably based on whatever happened to be in the TVR parts bin when that particular wedge went down the assembly line. This does tend to hold true more frequently with the brake master than the clutch master, but I've also encountered it with the clutch master.
