Is this supposed to go out once the pads have been replaced or does it require a reset?

on anything newer than an e39, (well, e46 anyway) i've seen it say in either the manual or the TIS that you turn the ignition on and leave the drivers door open for about 30 secs,
e36 should go out by themselves after a short while
the e39 is closer to the e46 in terms of brains so i guess the door trick should teach it a lesson

Simple thing to replace aswell, if you can do brake pads, then sensors is a piece of piss.

Things to remember, theres only 1 sensor per axle, on the e46 its located on the passenger side front and driver side rear, its also attached to the brake pad thats on the piston side of the caliper.

I just assumed that the thing was an exposed wire and touching the disc shorted it out. It seemed logical to assume a pad change would sort this, I guess I'm going to have to take the bloody wheel off again
