I had this problem last year, after a particularly cold spell of weather. Instead of doing that little buzzy thing on turning on the ignition, the speedo needle jumped up to 7mph, and all speedometer readings thereafter were 7mph too high. (really, I know what 30mph feels like!biggrin)

I spoke to my service guys, who suggested a fix, which I cannot remember now. It was something like keeping the button on the side of the steering columb pressed for a few seconds before firing the ignition, but that didn't work. Anyway, another cold spell later, and the problem disappeared.

Over the holidays the same problem recurred, speedo reading about 7mph high, then today it has now flicked up to reading about 20mph over.

I note that the problem has been worsened by the car being started when the battery was losing charge, because the car had been standing for a few days. On both occasions there was a feeling of 'booting the car into action', and it only just starting.

I've also has an issue with the car's idle, when fired up on low battery charge. The car was 'revving itself' from 1k to 1.5k on about a one second cycle? This disappeared when the car was properly warmed up, but made it an entertaining drive through town!

I suspect these probs are related but I have no idea what to do about them. Any help appreciated.

Re: Speedo, there's a sequence of having the key on position x, door open and some button or throttle press sequence. I believe it's detailed in the manual. Have a check there, or search for a topic on something similar with 'shangani' in the search too. I recall him having posted the solution before.

Re: the hunting issue. I believe this might be due to the IACV, which may require cleaning. The procedure for this is detailed on one of the SELOC wiki pages IIRC.

Yep, knew there was info out there.

Try this for the first issue http://wiki.seloc.org/a/Stack#Resetting

And this for the second http://wiki.seloc.org/a/Idle_Air_Control_Valve

Oh you are a hero, thanks SW
:big-hug:

On reading the stuff, it was the 'keeping the drivers door open' that was important. But seriously, how would you ever know that!!?
