Seriously considering picking up a 650 and mulling over these two options. I mainly do motorway miles so am leaning towards glass roof as suspect that it is a lot quieter cruising, but appreciate any feedback from you if you have either variant. Also feel free to chime in if you have any comments on 6 series generally

I've got the convertible and the roof is really good, not noisy at all on the motorway. I've been using the car all winter and you completely forget it's a soft-top when you're sat inside it. A few weeks ago I was stationary in traffic when it started raining heavily, that's the only time I've really heard any noise from the roof. As soon as you're moving though, the noise disappears, even in heavy rain. In the summer you can just cruise the motorways at 70 with the wind deflector fitted smile

I thought I might hear the 4.8 V8 a bit better with the roof down on a cabriolet though laugh

fairy muff !

I plan on getting a 6 series, I am also struggling with what would be better tbh.

I think I would go for the conv too due to the shear noise of the engine biggrin

All I can add (coming from a Z4 roadster) is that BMW soft top roofs seem to be incredibly well insulated against heat loss and noise. I honestly forget I'm driving a soft top a lot of the time - certainly quieter in the cabin that my previous car (a tin top Seat Ibiza). It does a great job of keeping the noise down hence I wouldn't worry about it being irritating on motorways.

I'd guess the same will apply for the 6-series, if not better.

Hi,
Had the coupe, loved it, but longed for the cab. I'm personally not much of a convertible man in general, however, the flying butresses and the overall design of the roof on the 6 is a design classic. That's why I would have got it.
Anyway, you can just pop the rear window down to hear that burble in most weather conditions if you like!

The roof on the 6, IMO, is better, due to increased build quality, than on the M3 convertible which we run, and that is a fine top itself.

Go for it.
