What game for the slightly older pc?

I have a pentium D 2.66 dual-core processor (overclocked to 3.33Ghz), 2Gb of memory and an nvidia 7900 gt graphics card. I play games on a 22" widescreen monitor at 1600x1050. I'm looking at buying a game through steam and was looking at far cry 2, fall out 3 or left 4 dead. Are any of these going to run on my machine... I realise that I can look at the specs but often it's not that representative of the sort of game play you get so does anyone have any of these on a similar spec machine? None of them have downloadable demos unfortunately.

Anything else anyone can recommend? Is the original far cry worth playing?

Yes, runs well on a 2Ghz AMD with 2GB RAM and a 512mb Nvidia 7800GS.

On Steam you can download Track Mania Nations Forever. A fun little racing game. And it's Free.

first of all, I would invest in a new graphics card, the other stuff in your pc isnt that bad but the gfx card is a bit dated.

even something like a 9800XT 256mg would de nicly, and you could probably pick one up quite cheap now.

Athlon x2 and an 8800gt plays everything thus far on a 24" at 1920x1200 without a problem. Havent tried FarCry 2, but Fallout3 is smooth as silk and 8800gt and 8800 GTS (ie the G92 core) cards can be had for £80 ish in the small ads / ebay.

PS on steam, defence grid is suprisingly addictive
