I pity people who don't like music

Mrs SC, for instance. Although excellent in all other respects, she seems to be virtually unaware of music. This is the lady who went to sleep in the guitar duel from the film Crossroads.

accompanied by John Inman, just two guys and two guitars, totally superb and very moving, and I watched her out of the corner of my eye, her head buried in a book, completely unaware.

She's not the only one, though, I've read reviews of Dances With Wolves (for instance) that haven't mentioned the music!!!

I can understand people not liking jazz, but not liking music, difficult to imagine.

I confess I am not a big music fan. Mrs B and B is and can listen to MTV allday long ( we work from home and she works from the lounge most of the time). I can take it or leave it and now much prefer the spoken word ( R4) to music (R1 or R2)

There may be an age thing as I used to be very keen as a late teenager and even into my thirties, but my interest has since died away alot and I don't have the attention span to listen anymore. It may be that Mrs B and B and I have very different tastes so nobody gets the chance to put music on loudly without the other moaning (need earphones I guess). Few exceptions are some songs and some artists but they are few and far between.

It's not really a case of "not liking music" I think it's more just an apathetic attitude. I like to hear classic/modern rock but I never pay for any and don't own an Ipod etc, I just use the radio in the car and sometimes in the garage.

You could say it about anything really....

I like music, but not so much that I would choose it over, say, reading. What I don't like is people who are "into the music scene" in a huge and irritating way. I suppose they are the music world version of the "wine bore" - they delight in telling you what esoteric drivel they are currently listening to on their iPod. Does my head in.

You sure she didnt fall asleep because she just isnt into guitars blasting out for 10minutes, i know it annoys the hell out of me. I cant stand rock music but enjoy most other types of music, do you pity me?

I get what you mean, my ex GF couldn't understand why I had no interest in trudging around a muddy feild for 4 days to see a load of bands, she used to go on about how great it was all the time, "Glastonbury this, V festival that, blah blah blah, you should like it, you should want to go, you're wierd for not being interested etc etc etc"

Seems the "music scene" has ended up like Football where if you don't like it "then you're a bit odd" in the followers eyes.

No, seriously, i cant think how i would have spent saturdays for the last 14 years of my life if i hadnt of been taking to football. Nothing better but i can understand why people dont like it.

I've always got some sort of music in the background and my iPod is barely ever switched off. What I can't understand is why the likes of Westlife and the X Factor winners are so popular. it really is music for people with no interest in music and because of that popular. I also can't stand most of the stuff in the charts, usually some dismal indie band or a rn'b artist moaning over a sample. For God's sake people, have some imagination and think outside the box. I guess it works in much the same way as people who go out and buy a Corsa or Vectra, they just want something safe.

Having said that, there's not much worse than the 'oh you haven't heard of [obscure underground band who had one EP in 1982]? You know nothing about the genre.

I love music. My single best ever purchase in my 37 years has been my iPod, especially when used in conjunction with iTunes. My entire CD collection + loads & loads of tracks from LP's I had when I was a kid, all on one small easy to search through device.
