Has anyone actually tried camera armour? I've seen some shells on ebay and wondering if they are worth it. I know my 400D is getting scratched but I'm not too concerned with scratches on the casing.

But does armour actually protect the camera any further? Or is it a purchase of the paranoid?

Not the most attractive thing admittedly, but I don't want to replace the camera anytime soon either.

I got sme of ebay for by D80, it's very similar to the one you had linked to but it looked thicker. Similar to this linky

I got mine for about £10 and reckon it was money well spent. It protects against scrapes and i guess it would offer a small amount of prtection if dropped.

The lens hood bit kept sliding off though so is not used.

Do you think your 400D is overly fragile? Or are you planning on droping it a lot?

I don't think its fragile, and I don't plan on dropping it either, but its certainly not a camera that has an easy life when we're on the road. And it has been dropped a couple of times.

A friend of mine swears by them...but then again....he spends a lot of time in derelict buildings at night!

I dropped my new Leica yesterday so some of this stuff would have come in very handy. As it is the insurance company is going to have to take the hit.

Any serious damage that is going to be done to a camera on being dropped, is going to be the internals. If it's severe enough to damage the case, you've probably fked the mirror or sensor too.

Luckily it was dropped after I'd taken all the photos I wanted rather than before!

I'm hoping the insurance company doesn't give me any hassle about it, time will tell. The annoying part is that I'm still waiting for Leica to send me the leather case which would have prevented the whole dropping scenario from occuring.
