Does anyone know if using a jack lead from the headphone/speaker output on the laptop to the HiFi amp input will work?

I guess it should but I have no idea if the laptop out put is sufficient.

Thanks

Headphone jack on laptop to Auxilary input on Hi-fi will work fine. phono-jack plug lead is what you require

Yep, or buy a Belkin RCA to Headphone Jack cable, leave it tucked behind the amp.

yep, or get one of those fm transmitters, plug into your laptop and tune into the frequency on your hifi.

Apple do something called Airport/Airtunes or something which does the same thing but in 2.4GHz frequency

Digger.

Its possible that one of the laptop jacks could be configured to output digitally? In which case you will get much better sound quality if your stereo has a coaxial/optical input.

Thanks all, I'll give it a go, I thought I'd ask first to save me the walk to Maplin at lunchtime, and then find it didn't work!
