As some of you are aware I visited the Ultima factory on Saturday. I wanted to check out the kit first hand just to be 100% sure these things are as good as everyone says they are. I also wanted to finalise a few details on the spec for my order and ask Ted et al a shed load of questions to make sure the stuff I was ordering was adequate for my needs.
In short I was sold on ordering the kit before I had even clambered into the demonstrator, everyone was very friendly and knowledgable and every single question I had was answered without hesitation and to my satisfaction. The components and part built cars I saw convinced me I wouldn't find anything better anywhere else and I was happy.
Then Ted took me out in the demonstrator ...
I've been in and driven some very quick cars over the years but I was left completely astounded by the performance of the GTR The acceleration, grip and brakes are all leagues ahead of any road car I have experienced and I am still struggling to find the right superlatives to describe the experience. Those of you who have finished cars are very lucky indeed, I can't even imagine driving one of these down my local roads, I also can't wait
We got back and I signed up there and then so my chassis is being made and the first few stages of my kit will be arriving soon
Can't wait to get started so expect lots of question from me over the next few months.

I've got a heater unit that came out of an old Tank which will run off the mains in my garage.
It chucks out a fair bit of heat but I think I'm going to invest in a hat and some gloves just in case

Great web site by the way, I read your build diary over the last few weeks, it's great to have something that detailed to refer to whilst doing mine.

I found that 2-4 500 watt floodlights mounted in the ceiling do nicely for heating. 4.99 each from B&Q, and solves all the lighting problems too!!

Mat Did you build your car with sunglasses on!!. Good idea tho.

Great job 454. I started with the idea of spending a few hours at weekend on car. It turned into a total obsession. Marraige survived and now on the road it was worth every minute. A lot of recent builders owe a debt of gratitude to Stig. Hi Stig are you back from honeymoon congrats mate.

Excellent, I'm off down B&Q at lunch to get some really big lights then

My missus is already starting to go off the idea rapidly, I think she must have read some of the build diaries as well

After my spin in the demo car I know that all the hard work (and potential divorce) will be well worth it.

Thanks mate! Still looking forard to seeing that beasty of yours. Lovely weather for numb ears at the mo. Perhaps the backblast of hot air in the Can-Am will be a blessing this time of year

Lots of work to be done on the car over the winter to maximise it's potential, ready to terrorise the roads next spring.

I dunno where I find the time either, but as you say, it's an obsession!

Website will soon start getting regular updates as I start making the necessary mods to get the most out of the car.

Get some paint while your there.
Floor paint will help keep dust under control and makes it easier to clean up.
White trade emulsion for walls and ceiling. This will make the best use of your available light, reduces shadows and generally helps with the 'Gob smack' effect on your visitors when you throw the garage door open.

If you paint the walls white and end up being blind from too much brightness with the floodlights, I'm not responsible OK!

Maybe I'll put the lights up first and see just how bright they are before going for the full dazzling white effect.

Floor paint is definitely a good idea, just need to make sure I start at the back of the garage and work my way out

Hi 454

Almost as excited about this as you are. Will be very interested to see the build dude. Will have to use mine as the bench mark and then both smoke flanders as his winkel has no tips :-)

Dan,

I don't think we'll have much trouble with the broken winkel
Throw the spare wheel out and you'll be fine

You know you're quite welcome to come round and play with the new toy anytime
