Exhaust & MOT question

TVR paranoia strikes again….. after a good run I have noticed that one of the tail pipes (passenger side) on my Tams std rear box feels hotter than the other (not massively but you can tell a difference by touch) also the gas feels slightly hotter if you put your hand in front of it when the engine is running.

Is the normal and me being a big girl or something that might need attention? MOT due in a couple of weeks so the emissions check should show if a cat is failing as it has one on each side?

I also have a new set of bang pipes to put on from power but don’t want to mess with it until the MOT is out of the way……

On the subject of MOT should I be looking for a ‘TVR sympathetic’ test station or should any do the job. I don’t want a moody test; just don’t want to fail because of the weird traits of Blackpools finest.

If the tamora comes with two different boxes (T350 one back box only!)and a seperate exhaus system then it can have several causes
- Cats been blown??? assuming you are running the SAME standard boxes on each side (age, product number???)
-Lambda Fault on one exhaust cat (should make engine run uneven as well, though)
- Silencer in louder exhaus gone
If it is one back box like in T350 I would not know

The std Tam exhaust is the same as the T350 single box (with 2 connections)one for each of pipes off the engine

If there's one back box exhaust fumes should mix and now side cilinderbank specific problem should apply- leaves the only poss something in the back box is broken- silencer/tiny hole in the side in question???

Different aspect: if you've got a reasonably friendly place doing your MOT and one exhaust is reading particularly bad compared to the other, a kind word later (especially given it's a car mechanics may well appreciate) and you might find the probe is inserted into the other exhaust where the reading may be a lot better.

Or, in the case of some garages, the probe may be inserted into the exhaust of a car sat near to yours.

Yes -my TR6 seemed to be parking a lot next to a Ford Galaxy 2.4 l for the exhaust test in Germany- it's said it was one of the cleanest carburetted cars ever tested
