Do they have a metal shield inside the reflector? My old man fitted a set of halogen conversions (can't remeber brand) to his Midget and swore that the Lucas sealed beams were better (yep, they were that bad). He decided that the shields were causing a vast reduction in light output and duly removed them with a pair if long nosed pliers, which seemd to help no end. They passed an MOT with no problems in this state.
The odd thing is I had a set of Wipac's on one of my previous mini's and I remember them as being very good indeed. I guess they have changed the design to comply with some stupid European law or something.

Before I changed to the Wipad Quadoptics I had cheapo Indian reflectors and with 100/80W bulbs they were great. Now I have to find some lights that work before this weekend. I am going to take a set of as-new Hella H4 headlight units from my 1991 Cooper to see how they work with the big bulbs. If that don't work I'll go back to the old, and slightly brown, Indian lights.
And, yes, I think the Wipacs do have the metal shields in, but I can't go and look at the moment as I'm in my office.
