I received an invitation to join the Institute of Directors through the post this morning. Anyone a member or is this some sort of scam like I think it might be?

I saw a copy of this on a mates desk recently and he was in it! I didnt get it out of him, but I assume you have to buy a copy to be in it.

It was full of Management Consultants and Accountants, not what I would call the "Who's Who"

I've never joined. Always thought it was expensive for little tangible benefit.

So not the scam I was thinking, I really should be less skeptical of things! Sounds interesting on their leaflet, but not sure it would be worth the joining fees for me though, although the executive lounges at airports sound good!

The main benefit to the IoD for me is use of premises in London and other cities (although I've only used the London one). It gives me somewhere to meet people or just to go and work for an hour or two between meetings. Airport lounge access has it's moments as well but the main one is having somewhere to meet.

Blame Firefox for that! Changed it without thinking.

Been a member for a few years, useful if you need somewhere to linger when in London and has a handy reasonable restaurant as to whether they ACTUALLY achieve anything for their mebership I am so far unconvinced!

Hope that helps
Agree with that, the IoD base in London is certainly salubrious.

There are local IOD branches as well, you don't have to go into London for meets.
