I've fallen at the first hurdle. The Sky man just left and I'm left looking at a picture that is obviosuly zoomed in so much that certain logos are off screen and its pixelated beyond reason. I know I just have to sort out whatever setting he left it on (zoom, auto aspect ratio or the like) but for the life of me I cannot find anything on the Sky remote or box to allow me to fiddle with such things... I know how to do it on the TV but the Sky box seems to be pushing a picture as it see's fit. Nothing in the crappy manual he left either.

Any pointers ? frown

I'm not at home right now but I'm sure there's an option to choose the aspect on one of the menus...

not at home either, but click the "services" button, there's an option in there for tv (16:9 etc).

Ah a Sky man who doesn't set the job up right, now there's a surprise....not.

I've yet to find one who wires it up right, between Sky+box, TV, DVD/Home cinema etc. The last one even screwed up the broadband connection.

Personally after getting it vaguely watchable I have leave it the statutory 24 hrs to download all the gubbins to get it initialised and then rip all the wires off and do it properly.

As mentioned above the settings for picture output are in system setup. I think there is a SCART control option where the box automatically controls the aspect ratio or did I dream that?

Lots more links and tips here http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/skyplus.html

Hey thanks FiF.. as a note - as soon as he left I took out the telephone wire as it looks crap trailing along my floor.. should it stay hooked up for a minimum amount of time.??

Yes it should stay connected for the duration of your 12 month contract. Without it you are unable to use some of the interactive services or order movies/porn on demand...

That ^^ is the correct and official answer above.

If you don't leave it connected then you open yourself up to test calls from Sky and then a tetchy letter saying you have not complied with your contract. Personally before I had multiroom I just connected up a trailing telephone connection every so often, buggered around dialling up and ordering a pay per view, or more usually some other interactive service that was either free or cost very little. Never had a problem with DSky. Once your 12 months is up you can disconnect.

However if you get multiroom then you have to have both boxes connected to the phone permanently as Sky are paranoid that your second Sky box is installed somewhere else, a student house or holiday home. They see that as a second installation which you are only paying £10 for, and they threaten to sent an engineer at £60 or whatever to check the wiring and cancel the multiroom plus start charging you for two full subscriptions.
