I just saw this ad in Porsche Parts

www.pistonheads.com/sales/detail.asp?i=15019&s=137&sc=AKGC

I feel that, as a Porsche owner now, I should know what a Design 90 is. I mean, should I get one for my 944? Might I have a spare one sitting in my garage that I didn't know was worth a fortune?

It's the style of wheel that was fitted as standard to the 944 S2 and the 964's when they first came out in 1989. Why they didnt call it the Design 89 is a mystery to me

Thanks guys. They say that you learn something new every day. That was todays new thing, so I'm off to sleep now.

I'll have to drop that into a conversation the next time I'm down the pub

Also drop into the conversation that (like some pubdwellers at the end of the night) they are available in 6, 7, 7.5, 8, 9 & 9.5 inches wide fitments!

I'd be very interested to know on which car they were 9.5" wide. Thanks in advance.

The design 90 is similar to the (forged) club sports that are on my '83 928-S

The design 90 is a cast wheel, as I understand it, so correct me if I'm wrong. I've got both, the 90's on my 1990 S2 and the Club Sports. On the CS you will see an indented "stylized" cresent following the opening in the wheel next to the rim.

Wish I had a better pic to show ya.

Another wheel question.

I have a set of Teledial 16" wheels, which a guy who owns a 924S is interested in buying from me. I don't think that they would fit the 924, as the rears are 8" wide (fronts 7"), and the 924 only comes fitted with 6" wide wheels all round.

He seemed to think that he would also have to use spacers, as there might be some issue with the size of his calipers.

I'd think that he's either going to be rubbing the wheels on the inside or outside of his wheel arches (or both).

Cheers

James, are your 16" teledials early or late offset ?
Could you please give me the part number (engraved on the inner side of one spoke) ?
TIA

Provided the teledials are from a later ABS fitment 944 they will bolt straight onto the 924S or 931 without spacers. The Design 90's make a lovely conversion for this model as well, either with 6 or 7 front and 8 rear, preferably with 205/50 and 225/45 tyres. At last, a donor vehicle that actually looks good on D90's.
