So, i'm finding it had to choose between the two, so its coming down to the boring stuff. Which is likely to fair the best on a 40 mile commute, 36miles of empty open B Roads followed by 4miles of stop start city crawl.

Cars in question are '96 2 door Impreza STi Type R 280ps v's '96 Celica GT4 ST205 255ps both bog standard.

I doubt there will be anything in it. Both are going be low 20's on a B road drive. Scooby is the nicer drive though wink

First of the Type Rs (ver3) like mine have got a very close ratio box and a very short 5th gear so you would probably find it fairly rubbish on MPG. However some would say the Version 3 is the most fun with no ABS or other gizmos, just raw edge of your seat enjoyment. DCCD is great too.

Both will return low teens to single figures if driven very very hard on the track.

I used to average low twenties. I drive it very seldom these days.

My ST205 with exhaust and panel filter used to average around 22mpg on the daily commute and if I was lucky 28mpg on the motorway.

Wouldn't describe them as anything near efficient!

If it is any more than 7mpg, you are not doing enough.

Burn fuel, burn planet, smash into any Prius in sight.

yes As others have said, they'll both be thirsty when booting it but the STi-R will be much more fun to drive.

Either way, you can recreate 90's WRC on every journey. Which is a winner!
