I managed to drift around a corner at 4mph in snowy Kent 0530 today nice and controlled like a slow motion film no smoking rubber or burntout tyres so a positive the negative was my heart stopping for 3 minutes causing permanent brain damage

BTW is it just a rumour that the traction control button has nothing underneath it? no wires or connection just a button! has anyone checked?????

Its traction control, not stability control! Isn't going to help you when sideways.

Aye.

Traction control: Stops the wheels spinning, giving you, um, traction, ideally. We have this. As far as I can tell it's purpose is only to play a little animation of a skidding car tho.

ABS: Stops the wheels locking so that you can still steer under heavy / low friction braking. We have this.

Stability control: Voodoo witchcraft probably involving wheel and yaw sensors feeding into a computer that can modulate power in addition to braking individual wheels as required. Or however these things work. This is the one that stops you drifting off the road sideways, it is this bit we don't have!

Edit: The drive to work today was very scary indeed. Nice amount of ungritted sheet ice death roads to negotiate in the ro. It's also so bloody cold that my hose has frozen so I can't wash all the salt off the poor thing after hundreds of miles driving in these conditions. There'll just be a pile of rust outside tomorrow.

Brussels... 2 runways closed for snow clearance. Taxiways just been swept but with hard frozen ice under the 4" of fresh snow.

A 90 Tonne Airbus and no grip for the nosewheel`s(steering) almost slid off the Taxiways 3 time`s on the way out to the runway had to use differential braking and asymetric thrust to save the day.

Talk to me about drifting at 4mph...........

Had a lie down when I got home

hats off to you guys, the best landing in the world ever (volume 3) was flying into Helsinki back in winter 99, Pilot came on to warn us we may have to hold on a bit. If it wasnt the skidding to a halt that killed me it was the shock at just how great their taxi drivers are in the snow as we bombed up the motorway nose to tail at 80 odd leptons in thick snow/ice.

It's -18c outside here just now, even the Corsa on it's winter tyres struggled a little to climb one of the hills in Aachen this morning...worst thing is they predicted tomorrow to be the coldest day originally at -20c (today was supposed to be -12c)...will leave jump starting the Monaro until it thaws out a bit more smile

Your joking Jez there's no way he'd leave the house without his makeup on. Hair straighteners are switched on as soon as he gets up. "Mirror mirror on the wall who's the vainest of them all"hehe
