Ski lift - what is the worst that could happen?
Discussion
The skier in the attached pics was riding up the Blue Sky Basin chairlift on Vail Mountain around 10:30 a.m. Friday. Mountain personnel spent about 15 minutes trying to throw him a rope over the chair so the skier could pull himself up but then backed the chairlift up and pulled him down. Apparently one of the lifties forgot to put the seat on the chairlift down.

This guy should have invested in a better belt! BUTT HINDSIGHT is a great thing. Flashing that is awful inconsiderate...so is someone taking a photograph. Dangling out like that must have been very embarrasing...like falling out of a ski lift. Well his holiday was a little pants. Lets be thankful he didn't fall completley out...oh wait he did.

It really is supprising that more people dont die on these things. Having been a liftie myself, I'd say that a good 75% of the time these things are operated by people who are either drunk or extremely hungover, didn't pay the slightest bit of attention during training and are more interested in chatting to girls than looking after your saftey.
The worst thing that can happen on a chairlift is a rollback and then basically everyone dies horribley, there is a video of a demonstration but i've not found it on the net.

Couple of seasons ago a Japanese tourist managed to get in the same position on a lift at Mt Hutt here, made it about halfway up the mountain before falling and doing something nasty to himself (bad back injury I think). He were fairly clueless as to how to ski or how lifts worked, no idea what he was planning on donig once he got to the top either...

Yeh, we know, we saw the photos on Pistonheads. Great technique.
