also, we work in north lincs and he lives in southern ireland, so who would be the best choice for servicing etc?

cheers.

Years ago there was an Aussie or NZ racing Chim in the classifieds with a hardtop - looked very nice, sort of an SWB Cerbera (apart from the windscreen)...

Still don't see why you would on a road car, though - there's precious little 'soft' top on them anyway.

the issue is that it'll likely be used as his car here, not at home in eire. he doesn't have access to a garage here and is worried about the security aspect.

back to the drawing board! am doing my PH duty to persuade him to buy something a damn sight better than a fabia! smile

Isn't a hard top Chimera a Cebera? paperbag

On a serious note, the TVR targa roofs, particularly the later (well, Chim era) one piece afairs look pretty watertight? To drive that is... not sure you'd want to keep one outdoors permanently for fear of tinworm.

No, but I believe they're quite keen on mild steel outriggers.

He could always get the leven weather hood, great piece of kit.maybe i have been lucky but i have had 3 Chimaeras now and none of them leaked.can't be too hard to find some OAP with an unused garage who would take small rent for it surely.

its security that is the main worry. he stays in digs as he's only here 2 weeks out of the month, and the area he stays isn't the best. i tried pushing the cerb but all he sees is huge bills whereas he knows his way around the RV8.

cheers anyway fellas. have found one for sale at a dealer a few miles away so maybe i can still tempt him!

There was a hard top being offered for sale via Pistonheads about 2 years ago - you may be able to find a really old link. However, I enquired into one and the guy had decided to stop doing them (just after he had started doing them!). Not sure why and nothing seen since.

I remember reading a thread about this ages ago and i think he stopped doing them because it had a straight window that looked....wrong...!

Yup, there were some criticisms of the window shape... and one of the first went on a Griff IIRC (tongue out Delly boy - need I drag up the pictorial evidence hehe!)

Oops, sorry about that. So used to abbreviating them, I forgot about the 'a'. Cerb was just a typo though, honest.

If I buy either I'll learn to spell it. smile

IIRC one was developed (or in the prototype stage) by Zertec years ago.
