Anyone know what the crack is with the new TCS exhaust?
Discussion
All the dyno testing has been done. Clive from V8Enhancements had made a few different designs of box up and we tried them all over a 2 day period. We had a resonance issue with one of the designs of centre box which is being addressed as that box made the most power so we wanted to use that design. Testing also showed that our initial choice of rear box design didn't reduce noise enough so we've gone for a much larger rear box now. No ETA on finished systems as yet, but I'll point this thread to Clive and see if he can tell us

Ive yet to see a conclusive test of anything better than the std large bore tvr manifold. Ive tested 4 manifolds now and can't say that any one design is better than another. on all the cars ive tested even with 4 into 1 manifolds completely unlike the TVR versions they all make about 400hp / 360lb.ft.
The only manifold I would love to try is the BTB version but its only on one car (as far as I know) up in scotland. Clive is going to be looking at manifolds for his own 4.2 and we've already bounced a few ideas around on that score (clive is pretty knowledgebale on exhausts now and has done a lot of research and his theory knowledge is beyond mine now) but as it's going into his griff it might not translate into a cerb spec manifold very easily. If your existing manifolds are cracked/broken there's no reason why you shouldn't try something else, you might find something that works well, but i have yet to see one. but watch this space, or at least watch clive's space

we did the first testing on straight decats to make the worst case scenario for noise for the exhaust. it bolts in exactly the same as the std system so will fit behind decats or cats .. but we also have a another design of linked decats that we are going to trial too with the emphasis on more flow and even lower noise. there's a lot of work going on and many people on seeing a finished part for sale dont realise how much time and investment goes into deciding what gets made and what goes in the bin. clive and i have invested thousands not tens or hundreds in getting this far, a situation familiar to anyone doing development work. I myself made a few systems before getting clive involved, and he has made a few systems and now making another. the end result is the melting of all the best bits we've found so far and also tested against the existing benchmark systems available. it all takes time and money. In keeping with the open development policy i employ, the process will be the subject of another Sprint magazine report in the near future.
To give people an idea of how much exhaust parts cost - a mandrel bending machine costs in excess of 50K .. so only people like JP exhausts and Blue Flame can justify them but you can buy the individual bends and tube.
Stainless tube is now around £11 / metre for 1 3/4 inch and £18 / metre for 2 1/2 inch tube, bends are around £6 for 10 ~ 90 degree bends and £18 for a 180 degree bend and you typically seem to need 3 bends for each tube .. for a 4 into 1. I've spent over £350 on bends along for a single pair on exhausts and that does not include the 4 into 1 collectors, 8mm lazer cut head flange plates, compensator joints or bends and exhaust boxes for the rear part of the exhaust..
I talked to a guy yesterday who used to make the exhausts for the JWR GT40's and he said it too a whole week to make the exhausts for those - with no interrumpions..
