An expensive way of avoiding cost of parking....

step 1: Get into your nice shiny brand new BMW
step 2: wait for someone (say, in an Audi A4) to put their ticket into the machine at the barrier.
step 3: sit half inch from their tail and try to follow them through the barrier.
step 4: don't anticipate that the Audi will have to stop for the main road while you are still under the barrier
step 5: drive straight into the back of the Audi while the barrier is descending...
It didn't occur to me exactly why he was sat so close behind me till later. Having fitted a tow bar to the back of my car, the damage to mine was some black BMW paint detracting from the rusty appearance of my tow ball, so I didn't bother taking it any further - can't be arsed filling in a load of forms when he's going to have enough explaining to do to get his bumper sorted!

There's a great video on YouTube of people following buses too closely in Manchester to get into the bus open automated-bollard bits; at one point a vehicle with 2 kids in the back basically charges the bollard and ends up raising its rear into the air; to the fright of the woman with the pram waiting to cross the road.

There is a car park in the centre of town which lots of happy clubbers park in for the evening and then lift the barriers manually, causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage... Despite the CCTV camera recording the whole affair in high resolution from close quarters...

It was a very gentle shunt, First day after I fitted the tow ball I reversed into a parking space forgetting the "extra length" I now had under my control and gave it a far harder jolt

Didn't look too hard at his car, Bumper deeply scarred & cracked, the side I was standing by the panel gaps weren't quite what German engineers would find acceptable 
his excuse was almost as inept at his attempt at parking fee dodging - "sorry mate, my fault entirely, I forgot to put my foot on the brake".
Indeed, remember that your towball has to bolt to something and so while your bumper will look fine, whatever is behind it will probably be quite buggered.
What a twunt though, most (if not all) barriers i've ever seen have a built in sensor to allow cars with trailers through, which means you can usually get another car out behind. Certainly worked for my entire time at uni!

NCP here has two kerb-like speed bumps which one must bounce over before getting to the ticket point at the exit barrier. It has just occurred to me that they are probably to try and stop people following you out!
