My top is good but I don’t have a rear window. I would like to find one new or used does anyone have one? Not many options here in the USA...

Have you tried Marshall Moore at Classic Motor Works or John Wadman at TVR North America in Scarborough (Toronto) Ontario Canada? If you need contact information for either, please e-mail me.

Have you tried a custom auto top shop? I've been told without "factory style" heat welding, the stitching will leak eventually but shouldn't be much of a problem.

How is the rest of the top? Marshall has tops if you need the whole thing replaced. Grady

I guess it’s just me being cheap but I hate to have to replace my entire top just because I don’t have a rear window. The top I have on it now is in good condition. I think that I am just going to buy a new top from Premier. Marshall only has blue and that will not work on a red car. Local shops wanted $600 just to fabricate a window and put it in. For that money Ill just buy a new one and install it myself.

Hi Andy, I see you have a buick in the tr7 presumably a v6, I know that's a popular conversion in the US. Do you happen to know if a TH400 trans will fit in the Triumph tunnel? I've managed to squeeze in a t56 but fancy an auto for my project. I've folded over the panel seams around the bell housing so have chevy lsx space in that area but I've not had a TH400 to play with. Thanks.

I need a new top too. I was pretty sure Marshall was having them custom made from a pattern he provided a local top guy so most colors were available - I am thinking of going from black to tan on my red car.

On the other hand, who is Premier? Thanks Grady

I had a new top last year. I didn't realise Marshall had them. Damn.

I was told that although the "soft top makers" still have the pattern they are not producing them, low demand.
So its "made to measure" not just install.
I had mine made by a guy who came highly reccomended. Another local 280 owner had one knocked up by a buddy for half the cost. They look the same.

Mine was $1,100

Last year I think I pinged everybody (in the US) that I could find on the internet or in the magazines and no one had a pattern. I got a wide range of prices from some local shops - IIRC from no to $600-$2,500.

At the moment, Marshall looks like the best option. Waiting spousal permission which has been withheld pending some other bills.

I used a T200-4R.... I am not sure the fit is the problem. Look at this site http://www.johnscars.com/tr7/tr7new.html. I am about to change my car back to a 5 speed. Don't like the auto!

To Grady, Jeff, et al,
Yes, I have a local upholsterer who does tops for me. He took a NOS 280i top and made a pattern from it. Obviously, he prefers to have the car in his shop for a perfect fit but he will make them without the car for a customer in your choice of colors. He also made me a boot to fit over the folded down top which he makes up as well, again in your choice of colors. He made the top for my "barn find" 1984, as well as the whole interior (see photos at www.cmw-tvr.com) and did a fabulous job.

I saw it at a car show last year in person, it looked great! Like the boot for the fold down top...

Come on up Grady, you're welcome any time. That'd be a good road trip for the 280i, wouldn't it?
