OK the emmission on Cerbys are very high. OK here are some facts the 4.2 Cerby CO2 levels are 386(g/km) and 357 on a 4.5 the speed six smacks out a cool 372. To put this in perspective the Aston Martin Vanquish is 396. The 911 GT2 has only 309 and the 360 Modena has 415. Most Cerby owners unlike the super cars I have listed owners are on a budget, and might not be able to find extra money for tax. Could be sad times for us What do you guys think?

if it went back into the roads along with all the tax on fuel, you might have a different answer.

It would be fair if it was a tax on fuel according to CO2 emissions. But it's not -- it's a flat rate. A car with 110 g/km emissions doing 30000 miles a year will pollute the atmosphere a lot more than a supercar with 350 g/km doing 6000 miles a year.

And there aren't many people running Diablos doing 30k a year....

I pay 50 quid less than you do, my car has tyres skinnier than a Griffith/Chimeara space saver and puts out under 120somethings of CO2. Due to the fact that it was made before March 2001 I pay £110 tax a year. What are you complaining about?? If you are that bothered about a pretty insignificant amount (in cerbera servicing terms atleast) then I suggest you sell up and catch the bus.

I agree, the tax is a little excessive - but owners of tiny little city cars that are reasonably environmentally friendly arent paying much less than you.

Go out right now for a blast, if you come back thinking about tax then go out again, repeat as necessary.

Edited to add, I do about 9k a year, alot less than most TVRs. If you want to balance out the tax per mile then use your supercars more often - I certainly would if I could afford one.

They changed the law on Road Tax from being based on Engine Size to CO2 emissions basically.
See www.dvla.gov.uk/newved.htm for full dull details...

No, the problem is not the current system. There is a proposal that people with the highest polluting cars will pay even more....

Theory people who have big expensive cars have lots of money therefore they can afford to pay more tax.Nothing to do with the enviroment, sorry.

Once again its just another tax on what the Government thinks is the rich and top end of the money earning spectrum but once again they are sadly and very wide of the mark. In my experience most TVR owners are not from the mega rich bracket. More like they have worked hard for their car, earn a reasonable amount, certainly above the UK average wage, and have desired a TVR for a long time. Many people, myself included have to weigh up all the pros and cons about Ownership including the running costs and eventually the stealth fuel tax and Co2 road tax will force people out of their pride and joys. Lets face it when most of us buy these cars we consider the costs now, not what hare brained scheme the Government will introduce 3 or 4 years down the road!!
BCA, your put up and shut up comment is fair enough, but TVRs offer a budget way into sportscar ownership for a lot of people, and this kind of hike will hit A LOT of owners in the pocket. Its all very well saying go out and enjoy it but if by doing so you risk paying the mortgage or feeding you or you family, I know what will have to go.

This redistribution of wealth bullshit from the Government is getting right on my tits. It hurts those in middle areas more than others. Why should I have to give up my little luxuries that I have worked hard for just so as some imigrant from uzbekistan can wander over here claim asylum and get free food, health treatment, accomodation etc without ever having paid a single penny into the UK tax Coffers. (Instead of imigrant you could quite easily read, work shy state scrounger).

Total agree. I'm begining to think there's no point to working hard towards a goal (IE Cerbera!). Better to just quit my job, go on the dole & let the state pay everything for me.
It's enough to send to

Is this the tax as in road fund?

If so dont sweat it, TVR dont have a thingumywhatsit so you pay the old rules Private/PLG of the old rate, none of this new fangled CO2 bollocks.
