My Bank - annoying call.
Discussion
I got one of those "do you want a banking review" calls from my bank the other day and its left me annoyed.
First I have told them on several occasions I don't want to be offered a bank review and that I don't like the way they approach you. Strange letters along the lines of "We have been trying to contact you. Please get in touch" Letters that when you anxiously call them turn out to be these "bank reviews" or attempts to pitch financial products. My usual response is put 600 quid in my account and you have my time for an hour. If not, fair enough bugger off.
The bank are supposed to have on record that I do not want this type of call.
So, yesterday, under quite buys at work, the mobile goes. Bloke with rough Geordie accent (I live in the NE) says "Is that Davidl" Only two types of people call me David, coppers and doctors. Everyone knows me as Dave. He sounded more like a cop so that got me anxious...
The call went on, with the guy speaking like someone out of a back street garage where he told me I'd just paid 200 pounds into my credit card the otehr day "Which is fine" he said. Too bloody right it is. He then told me he was looking at my balance - something that is easily paid off about 800 quid. He then said he could sort me a loan for the amount. I told him I as busy and her persisted repeatedly asking me to come into the branch for a rieview and a chat.
At that time at work I was far too busy to have a go at him, so I asked him to email me details of a 5k loan I might want. I wanted his name you see but had'nt heard it. He could not email, but could post details to me. The call ended.
So without establishing me identiy properly and getting any security info from me, this guy divulged confidential information to the person that answered a mobile phone and said yes when asked if he was David.
That's whats got me angry. The uncooth manner and persistant selling technique annoyed me, especially as I have specifically asked in the past not to recieve such calls.
First of all this guy needs proper training. He divulged confidential info without checking security. They have broken an agreement they made with me not to contact me about my account unless there was a problem.
How do you think I should proceed? I'm fairly lazy and tend to let stuff like this go......but perhaps in this case I should say something.

Phone the Bank's Head Office and ask for the address / contact details of their Data Protection Officer and also for the Head of Retail Banking. They are obliged by law to give you the DPOs details at elast.
Make your complaint to both of them stating that this could have been a blatant breach of Data Protection rules and that you want their assurance that this will never happen again.
I would enclose full "verbatim" details of the conversation and accept nothing less than a full WRITTEN apology and an assuirance that their procedures will be amended to ensure identity is fully established before any privite details are revealed.
(PS - I work in a Bank so give'em hell!)
