Hi all,

Who's doing the stickers for the steering wheel these days - mine are complete gone? Also did anyone come up with an alternative, i read a while back about someone developing a transparent/lit buttons - but depth was an issue. how far did that go?

cheers
Dean

there is a chap selling silver buttons with black details that stick over the top of the old ones, they are good and dont wear out like the stock ones how ever they are slightly raised/domed and you loose the feel of the click or activation feel of the button you get with the normal stickers. for the life of me i cannot recall the guys name. ill try and dig it out for you.

I don't think the illuminated ones have progressed as there was a depth issue of the led and the amount of space behind the steering wheel buttons.

I've got the silver ones, look nicer but yes do make pressing things a bit harder as you can't feel if the button is actually clicking in - however I'd still go for them over the original black as they do look more up to date.

If backlighting the switches is not possible, what about placing a small flat LED on each side of the wheel to iluminate the surface of the buttons?

A whole bunch of people talked this through on previous threads, in terms of backlighting etc. The issue is that there is very little mounting depth, and all of the currently existing possible replacement buttons are significantly deeper for the same diameter.

I don't think that anyone has managed to find a source of backlit replacements.

Of course, if you do, you will be this year's Cerbera Forum Hero!!! wink

I've got my younger brother who is a whiz at all this stuff, currently running a 380HP RX7, at 20 and he's stripped and rebuilt most himself. god; i was in a MK3 fiesta turbo, fitting huge speakers in my car for some reason at that age... oh that's it to blow ladies underwear off!

I'll speak to him Sunday as he's helping me replace lots of parts i've just bought for the Cerbera.

my argument is- if you can back light a mobile phone keypad via LED, there's got be a button or something that can be modded to accommodate this.

I got the silver ones this week from 'Jon h' on here if those are the ones your after. Sent him a PM through here, found him through the member search. Sent cheque for a tenner, they were here in about 3 days, excellent service and they are very good quality.

I totally agree with you on principle, Dean, it's just that finding the right button seemed to be a real challenge.

I look forward to seeing your Nokia-fied steering wheel soon! wink

I'll have a look at the thin film we use for lighting our panels at work, but I know we use an inverter to up the 12v. The new oled type film may offer some possibilities int he future.

The other option is something like the led tape:

There is a _lot_ more room in a mobile phone than there is in those buttons... I know - I tried. The buttons are membrane switches so there is zero space between the membrane and the actuating element. I think the best possibility is with electroluminescent film, but this will need some opaque labels with transparent symbols. They will also have to run off an inverter to provide the ~400v signal the film needs...

Experiments continue...
