Just sat down with a DVD in my back pocket, its broken.

Is there anyway of recovering the data from it? It contains 4gb of pictures, including my personal collection of my ex, so any help would be appreciated! biggrin

If it's in half, forget it.

If it's just cracked a little from the spindle outwards but is otherwise still in one piece, then it's possible, but a royal pain. You need to start by getting hardware with superior error correction capabilities.

Its not in half, its got a crack running from the centre to the rim. Think iI'll be spending tomorrow going through old hard drives to if any is backed up anywhere else frown

Buying new hardware isn't really an option at this moment, so if i can't find any i'll ask if she wants to re-stage them wink

There are specialized Data recovery services but they don't come cheap.

Didn't you think to upload them to one of those "naked pics of my ex" type web sites? hehe

If it's cracked and not snapped completely it may still work, but doubtful.

Sounds like a good idea, even if the disc wasn't damaged.

Ontrack are very good, but I pay about £1000 per hard disk I send to them. (Always laptop users that refuse to sync or backup their data)

You'd be able to read the data off some of the DVD, but if its been damaged the spinning of the disc may damage it more.

Look on it as a chance to move on, get over her and meet new people.

Off topic, but where does the law stand on this?

There's always the occasional story in the paper about guys being convicted of harassment for doing this.

I did a Google and came back with:

Unless the video or photo is of an indecent nature and of a child or of a criminal offence then the police will not get involved.
The way I read that, unless it's an indecent photo of a child the police aren't bothered?

Not that I'm about to post photos of anyone on the internet.
