and the brochure says it should have a i pod connector in the storage box, but there is not one there?

Now, am I being dense and reading the brochure wrong, or is it missing?

Weeeeellll I could be wrong but, as I read it there is a standard aux connector in the centre storage bin, ie a phono socket to connect the headphone output of your i-pod / mp3 player to the radio.

The phono socket is well hidden, buried right down in the central glovebox btw.

Afaik the Ipod/USB interface is a combined Ipod dock and USB connection and is available only as an accessory, but it does allow you to control your I-pod etc from the steering wheel audio controls plus charges the player. iirc you can have Ipod only or usb only or combined which seems a bit of an excessive choice.

Its worded as a MP3 Aux connection not an actual I Pod connection which as said above can be ordered as a dealer fit accessory.

If its the same as my V70, you just need a cable to connect (as said above) you're ipod through the headphone port and into the glovebox. Its quite handy, but you have to control the ipod with the actual ipod itself, not the steering wheel or stereo controls and it doesnt display what's actually playing.

Plus it doesnt power the ipod either

There is no socket in my centre console! Even had the damn thing pulled to bits.

Might give them a call.

Will try and take a photo of mine if I can find somewhere to host it. It's a small round phono socket just like the headphone socket.
Just checked the S40 price and spec booklet and it is standard fit on each model.

No need to post photos!

I just called Volvo and they said that you lose the aux socket if you have bluetooth fitted, which is one of the options I had!

Thanks for the help though guys!

I think it might be a new thing for the 09 MY. I was looking at the V50 just before Xmas, and it says in the brochure/price guide that if you order blue tooth, you loose the socket!??!

I expected to lose the socket as mine is 09MY and yes it said that in the brochure/tech spec when I ordered. Yet was surprised to find it there in the storage bin, and it does work.

It's strange, we have a lot of Volvos and we find all sorts of stuff fitted to cars that are not according to spec. It is always an addition never a lowering of the spec. Even had cars with leather seats that weren't ordered or indeed paid for!

Example. According brochure a feature of the Sport suspension is the quote "rally style front strut brace" unquote. Yet I have had a strut brace on my last two, neither of which were Sport specs.

So in summary, dunno.

Edited later to add.

Ah right got it figured now.

It looks as if you order bluetooth as an individual option you lose the aux input as stated by others above.

Yet I had a comms pack, which came with RTI, bluetooth, and keyless drive as a package.
The RTI automatically comes with a different sound system which now includes an aux input back in the scheme of things.

How confusing.

As an aside, what I wanted out of that comms pack was the RTI and the bluetooth, which individually come to the same price as the pack, thus the keyless drive was effectively an unwanted freebie. What a revelation!

When one considers what a total PITA a Ford keyless system can be, with every so often the keys losing the link to the car and then a right scramble to get them paired up again, you'd never realise that the Volvo is from the same group of companies. Absolutely seamless in operation, plus always got the option just to stuff the key in the hole and operate everything in the normal way. Definite thumbup
