Changing spark plugs

Hi all,

I'm going to put a new set of plugs in myself and, whilst this aint exactly a "big" job , I'd imagine that there are some tips out there to make things go more smoothly - I want to make sure I have everything I need before doing it so anyone got any advice?

I shall be buying a tube of black RTV in case it's needed to fully seal the CF spark plug cover I have fitted (loctite 598 preferably) and have the plugs already. I also have a 1/4" drive standard plug socket too but not sure, yet, if this will fit ok.

Why do you need silicon to seal the CF cover you bought?

Not sure if I do to be honest Whitey, I haven't seen it myself as RG fitted it for me but I seem to recall them saying that they put a very small bit of sealant where the 2 "fingers" are as they weren't 100% sure of the gasket seal there.

Will see when I open it up I guess...

aha, I know where they mean, but mine survived torrential rain for a number of days/hours in France with no issue, so I don't think it's required.

Be careful as you take it off, as the two(or is it 3) allen bolts have tiny rubber washers on the bottom of them(on the underside of the CF cover) so make sure you don't lose them and re-fit them.

The same as the common man's Speed 6, there's no difference.

Only thing to watch is that you have a nice slender spark plug socket else it tends to get stuck down the hole

You may find slightly better performance from the Denso Iridium IXU24 or VXU24 plugs. They seem to run very smoothly and may be slightly cooler but no dyno comparison to compare them with the standard NGK plugs.
