I'm just about to pay for the balance of a holiday - just shy of £5k. In the event of the tour operator going under I should be covered by ABTA, but does anyone know if there is a limit (per holiday or per person)?

Obvious solution is to put it on a credit card, but there is a surcharge, so if ABTA will cover me in full I'd like to save the 2%!

First of all check that you will be covered by ABTA. However, even if a travel agency goes bust, your holiday shouldn't be affected.

Anyway, don't you have travel insurance anyway?

Worth checking that it covers tour operators going bust though. A lot didn't cover airline failure.

ABTA covers if everything is booked as a 'package' through a bonded agent (not aware of the limit); you should always check if your travel insurance also covers Scheduled Airline Failure as most don't and if you're away when one goes pop you are stuck.

I live with an ABTA-minded individual.
