New job for c-charge PR
Deborah Linton
29/12/2008

THE woman behind the publicity campaign for Greater Manchester's failed congestion charge scheme is to be £75,000-a-year head of town hall communications.

Sara Tomkins will oversee all information from Manchester council, including press and events publicity.

She will start in the newly-created post of director of communications at the end of January, leaving a job as account director with Manchester PR firm Amaze plc.

The firm was called in by the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities and transport chiefs to draw up the 'Greater Manchester Future Transport' campaign.

This backed a bid for government funds for improved public transport, coupled with a congestion charge - a package rejected in a referendum.
