You could try growing something right from a seed?

ETA: don't grow it on a windowsill though...

Spider plant - The 'student' plant - I mean, hell, you can just keep re-potting the feelers and start your own plant business.
Well I thought of that originally, but I can't seem to find them anymore. Am I going mad or are they going out of fashion?I have a Vriesia Splendens (Flaming Torch), which seems like a good choice for a plant numpty. I think mine might be dead, but I'm really not sure, as it looks just the same as it always has.. which makes it nigh on perfect!
I also have a Scindapsus (large, climby thing) which manages to soldier on and look great whatever I do to it! My umbrella plant seems pretty tough as well..

Money plants are great....but remember to never place in the window, or your pennies will fly away

They do tend to grow veeeeery sloooowly. But they (real ones) do grow. The thing is, any plant that thrives indoors tends to be a slow grower because they are bred/adapted to low light levels. This is no bad thing though, I had a rubber plant (ficus something or other) and it outgrew the window in 3 years or so.
How about carnivorous plants? They are a lot hardier than you think, but the catch is they don't like tapwater, and if you dont have access to rainwater then it is a pain. Ikea often have them in.
