S1.5 Engine out jobby
Discussion
Just some pics to show progress on my little girl.

It's actually progressed a bit further than this now, the fuel rail and plenum are back on. Just waiting for my rocker covers and exhaust manifolds, then its all back together again.
One thing tho, does anyone know the wiring colors for the warning lights on the dash, my photo's have come out terrible and the wiring diagram is worse than useless, so any ideas? Cheers Adrian

Cheers guys,
Luckily I've got some good mates who have been helping out. I haven't done the engine mounts mainly because the engines only done 30,000 miles and was newish in about 2 years ago (Engine replacment hence the 2.9 in an S1) and the chassis was replaced at the same time. I'm quite chuffed with the progress, so fair it's been 3 weeks at it and we're nearly done, just waiting for my rocker covers and exhaust to come back from shot blasting.
I've changed things a bit in the engine bay as well:
1. Moved coil on to the bulkhead above steering column
2. Moved Over flow tank to inside wheel arch, nearer to water swirl pot.
3. Moving Air flow sensor so instead of being on top of each other, they will be side by side with seperate filters. I didn't like the way the pipes from the air flow to the plenum twisted from vertical to horizontal. (God, i'm so picky!)
5. Changed heater matrix rubber hose that spans the engine bay to copper pipe, primed and painted black. (I'm not a big fan of rubber hose)
and thats about it for the moment, i'm sure i'll find something else to change tho, i'll post some pictures when i'm done so you can decide it these changes work.

I'm probably gonna get shot down in flames here, and I know what you mean about how the AFM's look but will having independant filters not mean potentially different air flow volume and temperature to the plenum (does it make any difference ?) existing arrangement (and the original ford layout) has air coming from one filter space... will a horizontal layout take one filter/AFM too close to the radiator/engine ?not trying to be negative... just wondering you understand

I was thinking of moving the coil to the bulkhead too...

Cheers Norman, i've got your number and will probably take you up on that, at a bit of a loss at the moment with the dash, giving it another crack tonight.
From what I can see and have read regarding the air flow housing, they are two seperate units that share a filter. I took mine off and they have a flush surface so they sit tight together but are not connected except by the bracket that holds the filter on. They also have seperate air flow sensors and seperate connectors to the ECU.
No worries asking mate, its a sensible question. It seems there is a seperate air flow sensor for each of the two pipes to the plenum, which would make sense, otherwise they would have to go into one pipe then into the AFH for the sensor to get a correct reading of the total air flow. If you remove your filter, you can see there are two inlets, each with its own sensor. So i'm guessing they will be controlled independently and as such, should HOPEFULLY compensate for different air temperatures into each filter, tho i'm hoping that it won't make too much difference. Worse case I may 'create' an airbox to keep both supplied with the same temp air.
With regards to the postioning, there's quite a lot of free space in the vicinity of the air filter. Side by side, with a small gap between so I can fit two filters, is roughly 35cm. I'm not certain where the final postion will be, but I may try and get them centralish in the engine bay and then run two cold feed pipes either side of the radiator and down to the 'mouth' at the front. This should mean that the air intakes are not dependent on air coming through the radiator, which will obviously be warmer.
Hope that makes sense and even more so I hope it works

IIRC the sensors do different things, one measures temp, the other air flow (I think ?) which is why I was concerned about them no longer sharing the same air. If I'm wrong then it would not be the first time

ps engine bay looks much smarter now... well done
Yeah, moved the coil up next to the clutch cylinder, wrapped in a energy drinks can
Kev, to be honest i'm not entirely sure. I'm not planning on doing the mod just yet, gonna leave it till after the cars back on the road. I'll be sure to let you know if it all goes horribly wrong, which I hope to God it doesnt
