Optician Advice

Ok this is a bit of a weird question but P&P seems to be able to answer anything....
My flatmate went to have his eyes lasered yesterday and was told his eyes werent suitable for the procedure....
More worryingly they told him he should have never been prescribed contact lenses as they have damaged his eyeball further and in fact caused scarring.
Obviously he is quite concerned about this and we were wondering where he should go from here, is there an omubdsman for opticitans or a specialist to go and see to
A) confirm this opinion
B) find out if he has any recourse against his current optician
Any help would be great cheers

SWMBO has a similar problem. Hers is caused by dry eyes so the contacts aren't sufficiently lubricated and rub, IIRC she went back to the optician as her contacts were uncomfortable and that's when diagnosis was made. It may be that it wasn't apparent when the optician sold the contacts.
Isn't 968 an eye-bod?

Not sure about Opticians ombudsmen but there is the General Optometric Council and the Royal College of Optometrists. If you have reservations, perhaps take them up with those bodies. Before you do that, however, I'd get your flatmate seen by a Consultant Ophthalmologist, with an interest in Corneal and Refractive surgery to get their opinion, as it's the only one that will really matter in terms of the potential management options available. If you let me where you are based, I might be able to recommend a chap to you.968 said:

Ok, there's a chap in Redhill called Mr Bobby Qureshi (no relation) who is a great chap that I know well, and could help you. Also Kingston Hospital has a chap called Mr Simon Horgan who is very very good. Also St George's Hospital in Tooting has Mr Chad Rostron, who's also fantastic and well known to many PHers who have had LASIK done by him at Accuvision, where he also works.968 said:
