Why is it that Indian call centres get such a bad rep' and everyone just sgs them off left right and centre?

I'm starting to think that they are the best thing that has happened to customer service in years.

The technical support lines are particularly awesome, the people are well spoken, polite, knowledgable and very willing to help.

For example I got an X-Box 360 wirless network adaptor for Xmas, but on christmas day couldn't get it to work with my Orange Livebox anyway I called the Orange technical support line at 11:30pm on Xmas day and got straight through, everything was sorted in 5 minutes and was given a few tips on improving my Livebox service!

That would never have happened if the call centre was in the UK, when I was with Virgin media there very helpful technical support line was in India but the absolutely feckless customer service line was in the UK, rude, unitelligable idiots. I can usually understand the Indian guys better then the goons they have in the UK.

Also I think we need to differentiate between company call centres you call and idiot sales and marketing goons who cold call people - they're fking annoying whatever country they're from.

So the question is why the bad mouthing of Indian call centre and have these bad mouthers actually used them? Is it just the "They took are Jobs" thing?

It depends on how well they speak English I guess.

I've not been on Orange for years, but I do remember their Indian call centre staff being pretty good. My virgin broadband experience of Indian call centres wasnt anything like as positive. Like everywhere, I guess you get good departments and bad ones.

Most of the time they are reading from scripts anyway, so as long as I can understand them I don't have a problem. There was a story a while ago where a woman rang a rail enquiry line and was routed to an Indian call centre and was told that the train station in her village which she'd lived next to for 30 years did not exist! rofl

Maybe one reason I experienced is that when I was with Norwich Union a few years ago, the year they switched to Indian call centres they raised my car insurance by 40% (as an existing customer with no change in circumstances whatsoever, just another claim free year). I was expecting to get a large reduction in my premium since NU saved millions by moving their call centre to India. Instead they made huge savings in their overheads while also trying to fleece their existing customers. I haven't touched them for anything since then. It was pure greed by NU.

Quite clearly you have never needed to ring ‘Three’ with a problem or complaint. One phonecall to them and you'd be looking for the nearest noose. Utter incompetent feckwits.

Aye, utter utter st! I ended up having a shouting match with one rude bh from that shower of st. They seem to think it's accepatable to use phrases like "it's not my problems". tts.

Experience tells me that is highly annoying to need a question answering or a problem sorting and finally getting hold of someone who is supposed to help but in reality can't because they don't understand what you are saying and you cannot understand a word they say. AOL springs to mind. Should be IOL.
The number of Indians who phone here at work asking for the owner of the business has also increased massively of late. 1-2 second day, line kicks in, they ask for the owner of the business in some garbled Engrish, then go silent when you tell them they need to phone head office, followed by the line going dead. That's rude if you ask me.

Ouch!! Some guy at Three said his name was "Billy" in the strongest Indian accent i've ever heard. Got the time wrong twice for our time zone and terminated the call because he couldn't understand me!!

They are great if you have a complaint because you can run circles around them and they try so hard not to deviate from the script!

I've got a Barclays business account, which gives me access to a decent UK call centre. The phone is always answered straight away and I can get whatever I want done with no problems.

Virgin media? I'd sooner stick needles in my eyes. Horrible horrible experience not helped by the 15 minute wait to get a call answered.

I have done ...

3 - I wanted to go postal on them. Utterly useless, inflexible, incompetent.
Barclays - other than trying to sell me insurance, they were quite helpful.

Colleague called 3 to unlock his phone at around the same time. They basically quoted him something like £400 to unlock the phone so that he could use a local SIM card whilst overseas. They were saying he was buying himself out of contract. Tried a few times, always got the same answer.

I get these on my mobile a supprising amount. Point blank refuse to talk to them....Unless they can answer a set of questions based on the geography and/or history of the UK. Brightens up my day no end smile

never had to ring an indian based technical helpline but i would imagine in that situation you are being told a set of instructions to follow and are more willing to listen and remain patient.

the problem with the indian call centres in general is that 90% of the time its to pay a bill or for checking a balance, or some other menial task. the person on the other end is again following instructions, but instead of being there to help they are there to wind you up and annoy, by asking you to repeat every fking thing you say 20 times and still get it wrong.

took me almost 20 minutes last night to transfer £50 from my main account to one that didn't have any money in as i had lost the debit card for the main account. ridiculous.

I found the virgin media call centre particularly difficult to communicate with and unfortnately they are the ones I seem to have to call the most.

Also, I don't understand why most of the numbers you call to make a complaint etc are premuim rate so you get charged for the call. SUrely, if you have a valid complaint you telephone bill should be credited at premium rates plus also the cost of your time getting it sorted out.
