Hi Guys im new on your board i usualy frequent the Porsche section of PH i have recently bought an AMG C55 estate as everyday transport (just had a son) he was born premature so needs to be in a rearwards facing car seat the safest place for one of these is the front seat with the airbag deactivated. However Mercedes will not sell the transponders separatly they want £350 for there own seat(it is the my £69 Britax but with the transpodor glued on)
every other manafacturer has a manual overide but not Merc, has anybody on here come up with a soloution to this issue?

I'm not aware of a fix.

I've been in C43's the last six years and on MBClubforums most of that time and never recall seeing a way to deativate the airbag.

Thanks guys yes the C55 is the new dog wagon great car in all respects, i have found a fix but it involves buying a MB seat and removing the transponders and gluing them to my better quality non mb child seat:-)its the Stella soloution.
If i understood more about transpondor technology im sure we cound clone them.
Still car was a bargin, as fast if not faster than the GT3 i currently drive daily and one more MPG but shame prevents me saying what that figure is.

thanks

Therre is one other option and is free, you can contact MB head office, and ask them to authorise it to be permenatly deactivted, they will send you loads of legal info for you to sign, and then you can pop down to dealer and they can turn it off.

I thought about just taking the airbag out but decided against it as when a normal person(ie not a baby) is in the front i think airbags do offer beter crash survival.

Have a look on Ebay last time i was searching for some baby stuff i found a few sellers with either just the transponders for sale or a second hand seat from which i presume you could take the transponders.

This is the only solution I've heard of (for any Merc)

Well AMG auto's are cetainly easy to launch off the line....I've surprised a few people in my C43's as they juggle their throttle and clutch, worry about half shafts, etc.

Why is the front seat safer than the back seat?
