Wish I could say it was something exotic like a GTR but unfortunately my question relates to an honest, humble 1.0ltr 'N' plate micra.

It belongs to a female friend and is her first car. Unfortunately for her she had her purse stolen which included both her house and car key (one only). Her wonderful boyfriend decided that the best approach as far as her car was concerned was to put a brick through the window to open the door and then ram a screwdriver into the ignition barrel so that she could drive to work. Suffice to say............it didn't work, I believe although not certain, that there could be an immobiliser with the transponder built into the ignition key (anyone confirm that?). Because the car is worth cock-all we're trying to do this on the cheap so on my shopping list so far is the glass, door locks, steering column shroud and ignition barrel with new keys.
This is all very well and I can source the parts reasonably cheaply but will this solve the problem. If there is an immobiliser then presumably if I get a new ignition switch then the new keys wont be matched to the existing immobiliser?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

cheers

Yes, there is a transponder chip in the key, which communicates with the aerial pickup around the steering lock.
If replacement locks are fitted, the keys will need recoding to the car with the appropriate equipment.
